The Basics of Cloth Diapers – 4 Types of Cloth Diapers
Want to use cloth diapers, but not sure where to start? In the beginning this can be very confusing if you are not familiar with the types they offer. There are 4 types of cloth diapers you can choose to use.
1. Prefold Diapers
Prefolds are the least expensive cloth diaper available and the least convenient as well. With these diapers you have to fold them. The diaper itself has 3 sections with the middle having the most layers or being thickest to help with absorbency. Each layer has a number for example 4-8-4. These numbers represent how absorbent the layer is going to be. For example the outer part of the diaper is 4 layers thick with the middle being 8. Prefold diapers require both a cover and fasteners (like pins).
2. All In Ones
All In Ones (AIO’s) are exactly as they sound and do not require a wrap or even fasteners, plus they are waterproof. They have elastic around the legs and around the back for a better fit. The fasteners are usually velcro or snaps and are attached to the diaper. The AIO’s are the most convenient because you do not have to add anything else to these and they are a little easier to pack in the diaper bag. One of the disadvantages of the All In One diapers is that they can be a little tougher to clean and take longer to dry.
3. Pocket Diapers
Pocket Diapers are similar to the All In Ones. The main difference being they require a stuffer material to be placed into the pocket of the diaper before use. Two advantages of the pocket diaper are that you get to pick what type of material you want to use and you can customize how much you want to stuff into the pocket to accommodate your child. A disadvantage is that they can be bulky depending how much stuffing material you put in the pocket.
4. Fitted Diapers
Fitted Diapers are the next step up from the prefold or flat diapers. These diapers fit snug up to your child and have elastic on the legs and around the back. They are easy to put on and easy to clean. These are very similar to the AIO’s, but they are not waterproof and do require a wrap or cover.
Cloth diapers might take you awhile to get the hang of and you might go through a couple of different types before you decide what works best for you and your child. But in the long run it is definitely worth it.

Buying Diapers At A Discount

Buying Diapers At A Discount
Buying diapers at a discount can save you a lot of money over the years. Children can use diapers for 3 or 4 years, costing thousands of dollars during that time. Even after children are newly potty trained, they often wear pull-ups or other diaper type products for a period of time or at bedtime. Short of using cloth diapers, it can be a challenge to find affordable diapers.
It is difficult for parents to shop all local stores to compare prices, so finding discounts can seem an impossible task. But, it is possible and when you do find that great discount on diapers, you want to stock up, keeping storage requirements in mind.
How much can you expect to spend on diapers?
Infants can use as many as a dozen or more diapers per day, but that number will decrease as your infant becomes a toddler. However, as diaper size gets large, cost per diaper goes up. In order to compare prices for diapers simply determine the cost per diaper for each brand and compare. Parents can spend as much as $ 2,300 on diapers during the 3 or 4 years a child wears them. Do not forget the diaper quality when comparing prices. A diaper that holds less may require more diapers per day and ultimately cost more.
Store brand diapers are generally cheaper than brand name diapers and work as well. However, remember that not all diapers are suitable for all babies. Allergies resulting in rashes and other concerns can come up with any product, including diapers. It may take a little trial and error to find the brand that works best for you and your baby. Be patient and mindful when choosing diapers.
How to find diapers at a discount.
Occasionally diapers go on sale in retail and grocery stores, but watching for coupons and discounts listed in store flyers is the most productive way to find diapers cheaper. As with any product today, shopping online will often result in discounts for diapers, often better than those found in stores. Additionally, shopping online provides the added benefit of shopping at any time of day or night and the convenience of home delivery.
